Hello and welcome to Daraabah Fleckvieh Simmental. We are a family operation consisting of Bruce and Melinda McColl, Lachlan McColl and Maddie and James Hannah and a new addition, Millie Hannah. We run 120 stud breeders on properties at Dubbo and Merrygoen in Central West New South Wales.
Our breeding aim
With the market for our bulls being predominantly Central Queensland and North West NSW we believe the bulls we are producing are very suited to these conditions and markets. With conditions frequently tending on the dry side we have selected for medium framed animals rather than the bigger rangier types. We like to see our bulls well- muscled but they must also have the softness to be able to finish within the market specifications. With the increasing demand for Simmental-Fleckvieh 1st cross females another important factor for us are the maternal traits of the breed. We select for high milk, high fertility and sound udders.
Our children also see the advantages of Simmental-Fleckviehs and have their own animals. Our son Lochie, continues to produce animals under the Daraabah banner while he is studying at University of New England. Maddie and her husband James Hannah, have their own stud, Glenanna Simmental-Fleckviehs and as well as managing our Merrygoen property, have been involved in preparing cattle for other studs for sale/show purposes and James has also established a livestock transport business.
